Below you will find frequently asked questions (FAQ) about IDnow AutoIdent and online identification.

What is an automated identity verification?

Automated identity verification means that a person can verify his/her identity using a valid ID document through an automated process. IDnow performs this process through one of its products called IDnow AutoIdent.

IDnow AutoIdent allows customers to enable their users to verify their identity while signing up in a few minutes. The entire process takes place on the users’ phone, so there is no need for any face-to-face interaction to start onboarding.

What are IDnow’s greatest advantages?

What are the different modules and security levels of IDnow AutoIdent?

IDnow is modularized to match your requirements of speed and security for user onboarding:

  • The ID Document Verification reads out key information and performs static security checks.
  • The Biometric Verification confirms the documents rightful owner, comparing the user to the ID document picture.

In what cases can I use an automatic identity verification?

Whenever you want to identify customers quickly and safely or read data from ID documents, IDnow AutoIdent can be used. IDnow AutoIdent serves a wide range of use cases such as user registration for customer portals, age verification, and capturing ID document data for banking and insurance industries.

How easy is the process for my customers?

IDnow is proud to offer a user-friendly process that can take only a few minutes. This process can be covered in 3 main steps: ID document verification and capture, security features verification, and person verification.

Is my customers’ data secure?

Yes! All communication takes place via encrypted channels. Only high-security data centers located in the European Union are used. Upon request, any data fields in the recorded ID documents can be blackened out in order to act in accordance with the principle of data minimization. We will also gladly work with you in the framework of an Order Data Processing Agreement (ODPA).

Can I have my own customized app?

Yes, we can offer you our customizable Native App or develop a customized App just for you. Another possibility is to integrate to your own developed app through SDK integration.

Our SaaS solution also allows you to have a fully customized experience.

In which countries and languages is IDnow available?

IDnow is available worldwide, supporting ID documents (passports, ID cards, Residency permits, and Driver’s licenses) in accordance with the common ICAO standard. At the moment, we cover documents in over 195 countries. Our software is also available in the following languages – English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese.

We consistently work on adding new languages. If you require additional languages, we can support you with your requests.

What do my customers need to identify themselves using IDnow?

For the automatic identity verification via IDnow AutoIdent, your customers will need:

  • A smartphone with a camera in the back and the front side of the phone
  • A valid ID document
  • An Internet connection

How can I receive my customer’s identification results?

By default, you will receive the identification result in Zip file format including all attachments: PDF summary, JSON/XML data object, images of the user and ID document. In addition, this data can be posted to your server as a webhook.

Does IDnow ask the person to identify himself/herself again if there are any problems with the data?

IDnow carries out the identification process and will provide you with the results. We do not take responsibility in contacting your end-user regarding any information about the next steps.

If a user was unable to successfully identify himself/herself, can the person start the process again using the same Ident-ID?

If the user cannot complete the identification process, the transmitted Ident-ID can be reused.

However, if the user has finished the identification process, he/she will require another Ident-ID to restart the process.

Which documents does IDnow AutoIdent support?

IDnow’s AutoIdent can verify end users’ identity with various ID documents. IDnow provides customers with the most recent list of supported documents. Our goal is to increase coverage constantly, therefore, this list is frequently updated.
